South Jersey Schools Use 3-D Printers to Create Artificial Hand, Chicken Wheelchair – An artificial hand. A stand for an iPad. A clamp for a motor that generates electricity from a skateboard or suitcase. A wheeled cart for a disabled chicken. All of these devices were made by students in area schools using 3-D printers. Not only did they design the one-of-a kind items, they manufactured them and showed they could work, all right in their classrooms.

Rutgers University Center for Mathematics, Science and Computer Education is hosting its 3rd annual summer educational conference on Wednesday, August 13th from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. This year’s theme is New Media: Creativity & Innovation. Topics include Brain-Based Learning, Experiential Learning, Fostering Creativity and Innovation, Coding for Kids: Gaming and App Design, Learning by “Making” and 21st Century Skills: Meeting STEM Standards.

Sessions are highly interactive and hands-on! Participants will leave with practical ideas to enhance their teaching and learning. With creativity & Innovation as a focus, we’re highlighting the School Maker Movement. To close the event, all participants will experience why the Maker Movement has sparked a creative learning revolution by “tinkering” with their new MaKey MaKey invention kit ($50 value).
