Handwriting on the wall for video…

Writing's on the wall for text, Facebook exec says

The future of social networking involves video messaging, not text content, with Facebook likely to be all video within five years, says Nicola Mendelsohn, the social network's chief for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. She notes "a year-on-year decline of text."

Videos are driving more conversation, Facebook says

Facebook says videos are driving 13.2 times as much chatter as they did a year ago, with 100 million hours of video being viewed daily. Facebook users are also sharing triple the amount of video in 2016 than they did at this point in 2015. Adweek (6/14)

The Department has created an ESSA webpage that contains a preliminary timeline of selected changes that are in effect for the 2016-17 school year. Full implementation is required in the 2017-18 school year. Program offices should check the information on their sections of the website to determine what documents must be updated now. The ESSA webpage will be updated continuously as new guidance is issued by the federal government.

Subject: New Jersey School Performance Report Survey

Dear Colleagues,

In its effort to improve statewide reporting about public schools, the NJ Department of Education is asking you to share a survey that will help us understand what information the education community wants to know about our public schools. The survey, which is entirely voluntary and anonymous, should take approximately five minutes. Click here to access the survey.

The survey will only ask for general demographic and school information so the Department of Education can ensure it is getting a representative sample from all regions of the state.

If you have any questions or comments about this topic, contact Collene O’Reilly at the Department of Education at ESSA@doe.state.nj.us.  We thank you for your participation and support.

Donald Mitchell, Chief Performance Officer

Office of Performance Management, New Jersey Department of Education

Promising State Policies to Enable and Scale Personalized Learning Tuesday, June 21, 2016 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. ET  (register)
What are the promising state policies to enable and scale personalized learning? How can policymakers develop and advance a coordinated set of policies that suits their state's unique policy landscape and education system? The passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) presents a historic opportunity for states to align policy environments to advance powerful, personalized learning experiences for all students.
A recent iNACOL report, Promising State Policies for Personalized Learning, highlights specific state examples of promising policies that create room for student-centered learning to close persistent equity and learning gaps. In this webinar, co-hosted by iNACOL and the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), the presenters will discuss policy opportunities and specific state examples that other states can look to in crafting their own legislation. The webinar will highlight the different entry points for states, with policies for getting started and launching initiatives; moving forward with specific policies to support personalized learning, or taking a comprehensive policy approach.
This webinar is free to attend-participants are invited to register here for final details and login information.
