Hour of Code-NJ Winner (2016)

The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries and anyone, anywhere can organize an Hour of Code event. One-hour tutorials are available in over 40 languages to assist participants in preparing for their events. No experience needed. The Hour of Code movement is open to ages 4 to 104.

In connection with this movement, one public school in every US state (and Washington D.C.) wins $10,000 worth of technology.

Participants have to complete an application and submit documentation. NJAET Board member, Denise Harlem (pictured center), Technology Coordinator for Park Avenue Elementary School in Orange, NJ, applied on behalf of her school and they won the $10,000 award for New Jersey for 2015! Congratulations Denise and Park Avenue ES!

2015 Hour of Code Winners for New Jersey

Computer Science education is important. In China, every student takes computer science to graduate high school. In the U.S., 75 percent of schools don’t even teach it. It’s time for us to catch up to the 21st century. We know that regardless of what our students do when they grow up, whether they go into medicine, business, politics, or the arts, knowing how to build technology will give them the confidence and know how to succeed.
