Ed Tech Advocacy Summary-2015-04-23
  •  An amendment to the Every Child Achieves Act of 2015, which passed the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions last week in a 22-0 vote, would set aside funding for ed tech. (This is ESEA/NCLB)
  • Under the Innovative Technology Expands Childrens' Horizons amendment, competitive grants would be available to states for implementing ed tech professional development, expanding ed tech resources to schools in rural and underserved communities, and offering online courses for advanced students.
  • The amendment would also require schools applying for the grants to verify that they had completed a technology readiness survey, which EdSurge postulates could potentially be the U.S. Department of Education's Future Ready District Assessment.

ISTE Supports $200 Million in EETT Funding

On March 26, 2015, ISTE sent a letter urging support for President Obama's $200 million funding request for EETT in his FY 16 Budget to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the Senate and House of Representatives in Washington. A large number of organizations (including NJAET) — representing educators, state and local education leaders, publishers, and the high‐tech industry — have also signed the letter asking them to provide $200 million for the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) program in the final FY 16 Labor, HHS, and Education Appropriations bill.
