NJAET News - February 9, 2007
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is the weather outside cold enough for you? Why not stay indoors and nominate someone for Technologist of the year, read the winter issue of the NJAET Journal, visit the NJAET blog, check out a new teacher resource or an online university, or think of a topic for the 2007 annual fall conference. Read on for details on all of these topics.
Technologist of the Year 2007
Win recognition plus $1,000
The deadline for nominating someone for Technologist of the Year is April 1, 2007. The Technologist of the Year Flyer for the 2007 awards program is available on the NJAET website in PDF format. Who do you know who might be eligible to win this award, maybe even yourself? Check out the online guidelines and application form for this program and put on your thinking cap.
NJAET Journal
Winter 2007 Issue
The first issue of the revised NJAET Newsletter, the Winter 2007 Issue of the Journal is now online. You'll find information on Web 2, online safety resources for teachers, multisensory classrooms, an upcoming NJ Tech Literacy Assessment and more.
We hope you enjoy this issue and find it helpful. If there's a topic you would like to see addressed in a future issue, let us know. And as an educator who is using technology, you are a wonderful source of information for this new publication. Contact Dr. Dave Cochran or Dr. Cathy Grimaldi and they will be happy to get your information. They will even write it up for you if you feel you are unable to do so.
NJAET Blog
And don't forget to visit the NJAET Blog and join in the discussion.
See the January 14, 2007 issue of NJAET News or the Winter 2007 Issue of the Journal for a list of upcoming blog topics.
Spellingtime.com
Free online, interactive spelling tool for grades 1-5
Our own Dave Cochran has reviewed this site and finds it to be well done. The fact that it is free is also a real plus. Why not check it out yourself and let us know what you think.
Debra Marcionette is the founder of Spellingtime.com which is a FREE online, interactive spelling tool for children in 1st-5th grade. She writes, "We believe our program is the most advanced, results oriented spelling tool available" and would like to "alert the elementary schools of New Jersey as to the existence and availability of Spellingtime.com."
Debra continues, "To learn more about our application, please visit www.spellingtime.com and test our Text to Speech engine live and experience our phonetically correct talking agents. I am sure the teachers, parents and students of New Jersey will love Spellingtime.com!"
Educators Online
Earn Graduate Credits Online / Teach Online Courses
Are you interested in taking graduate courses, but don't have the time to attend classes? Why not investigate online learning? NorthCentral University (NCU) in Prescott, Arizona is one online university that you might consider. Several NJAET board members have experience with NCU, which is why we can recommend it. Let us know if you have experience with any other online universities.
The Education Department at NCU is growing by leaps and bounds and so needs an ever increasing number of "mentors" to assist students taking such courses. If you have a doctoral degree and think you might be interested in becoming an NCU mentor, contact Sue LeBeau for further information.
2007 Annual Fall Conference
Creating e-Magic
The theme for NJAET's 2007 Annual Fall Conference will be Creating e-Magic. The conference will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey. This year's conference will include special two-hour, hands-on sessions integrated within the one day conference rather than as pre-conference workshops on a separate day. Watch for the Call for Presenters, coming in March.
