The write up for Podcasting & Podcasting for the Absolute Beginner indicated that it was a how-to session that would teach you to create your own podcast. Instead it was a wonderful tutorial on the characteristics of podcasts, the various pieces, the different types, the equipment needed, who can receive podcasts, why they are useful in education, the editors that can be used, and information on hosting. Resources include webcasts from EdTechTalk and free stories and poems from Lit2Go in MP3 format.
Chef Charles of the Distance Learning Center at the Culinary Arts Center of the New York Institute of Technology offered (via videoconference) a way to include math, science, health, nutrition, and social studies as he prepared a very simple meal that students would enjoy.
The Open Source Lab and the Bring Your Own Laptop sessions offered information and tips for the more technically minded conference participants. Three free software programs for high-powered graphics and desktop publishing include GIMP (GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software.), Inkscape (Inkscape is an Open Source vector graphics editor) and Scribus (Scribus is an open-source program for award-winning professional page layout).
Advice gleaned from NECC: Follow your passion - Take risks - Think big. Sounds like good advice.
